We don’t usually write about horsemanship since so many do, but this is a really interesting new study. Below is a link to the article about the study that indicates that at least 4″ of bedding over 150% of the area for a horse to sleep on will actually encourage them to lie down and rest.
Since many horses in the U.S. do not have much bedding in their stalls, and certainly not 4″, this is something we should take note of. Also mentioned in the article about more bedding are the Swiss Animal Welfare regulations which covers domestic animal care including minimum space requirements..
